Lony Raul Goldenberg Godeanu passed away peacefully at the age of 95 at home in Toronto. Born on June 1, 1930 in Focşani, Romania, he lived a long and meaningful life marked by travel and adventure, and deep connections with those around him.
Lony was a beloved father to his devoted daughter, Carol (Tim Burke) and a proud grandfather to Joaquin and Shepherd. He shared many years of companionship with Vicky Brujan, whose presence brought him great comfort and joy. He is predeceased by his sister Renee and his brother Solomon, and will be fondly remembered by his many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Lony was a man of remarkable intellect and versatility. He graduated from the University of Bucharest with a degree in Philosophy and began his career as a journalist. He transitioned into work as a radio technician, later changing careers again and spending several decades as a general contractor. He made his way to Montreal, Canada in 1970 and eventually settled in Toronto. Lony was married twice to two remarkable women (Doina Daniilescu & Monica Brafman) who, even after separation, continued to love and respect dearly. Throughout his life, he remained deeply engaged with the world and people around him.
Lony had a passion for lively political discussion. He found joy in writing poems for friends and social gatherings, expressing his creativity and affection in a personal and lasting way. He will be remembered as a charismatic and well-respected man who was deeply loved by all who knew him. His presence, voice and spirit will be greatly missed but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
