Livia Maria Beysovec passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026 following a brief illness. Born in Ponickká Huta, Slovakia, in the former Czechoslovakia, Livia was the first child of Gejza Solárik and Edita Lakomčíková.
Livia was married to John Beysovec who passed away in 2021. Livia is survived by her loving family in Slovakia, including her beloved brother Peter Solárik and his wife Anna, nephew Aleš (Otilia) and children Eliška (Ján Koristek), Livia, Tatiana and Adam Matúš, nephew Radoslav (Martina), children Nella, Filip, Júlia, and nephew Peter (Ranáta) and children Emma Justina and Hannah. Livia's talent and love of music continues on in her family members.
She was proud of her heritage, culture, and background. With courage and determination, during the Prague Spring, a period of political liberalization and mass protest in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic, Livia immigrated to Canada in 1968 and settled in Toronto with her husband, John Beysovec.
Livia began her post-secondary studies in Prague and continued her education at the University of Toronto Faculty of Pharmacy, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy.
Livia joined the Hospital for Sick Children in 1973, where she dedicated her entire career working as a pharmacist. The highlights of her long career are having become one of the first clinical pharmacists in the hospital, assigned to the Cardiology Unit, followed by a long period as a clinical pharmacist in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She was dedicated to her profession and touched many lives throughout her distinguished career. Livia also maintained a role in community pharmacy, including administering immunizations to her patients up until very recently. In recognition of Livia‘s exemplary service to the Hospital For Sick Children, its patients and families, the Pharmacy Department has renamed its legacy award, The Livia Beysovec Legacy Award.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Livia had a passion for the arts. She enjoyed classical music, opera, and singing. She was a long time subscriber and donor to the Canadian Opera Company and subscriber to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. She hosted benefit concerts and participated for many years in the annual Toronto Kiwanis Music Festival as well as countless recitals with her singing teachers and fellow singers. She performed as soloist at the weddings of multiple friends.
Livia and John loved to travel, especially the regular visits to New York City to attend performances at the Metropolitan Opera and Jazz at the Lincoln Center. She cherished her large circle of friends and developed deep, caring relationships with each individual. She maintained good health and fitness including daily swims and personal training at the YMCA.
Livia was a person of faith, participating in life at St. Patrick’s Parish in Toronto, and was soloist and cantor for the weekly services. Livia was generous with her time and volunteered at the National Ballet and the Women's Auxiliary at The Hospital for Sick Children. Livia was one of a kind leaving a legacy of kindness, dedication and passion and her memory will continue to be a source of inspiration to her family and friends. She will be missed.
Livia would also want us to remember that she was a devoted pet parent to her beloved dog, Thomas, and cherished the many years they spent together.
When Livia‘s friends became aware of her illness a team came together spontaneously and ensured all her needs were met, keeping her company from morning till night.
Livia received excellent medical care at UHN - Toronto Western Hospital. She passed away peacefully at Kensington Hospice.
