The funeral will take place in Toronto.

Lewis (Lew) Boles (76) died peacefully on Wednesday, December 10, at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto, Ontario. Beloved husband of Amelia Cruz-Boles, loving brother of the late Dr. Murray Boles (2016) and his late wife, Lya Joy Leon (2009), uncle of Suzanne Boles and her late husband, Bob Donaldson (2013), Anita Boles and her husband George Suranyi, and great uncle of Jennifer Donaldson, Danielle Canfield, and Emma McManis.
On November 12, 1967, at 18 years of age, Lew had an accident that would impact the rest of his life. A spine injury left him without movement below his neck. He was transferred from his hometown in Windsor, Ontario, and admitted to Lyndhurst Lodge in Toronto, Ontario, a rehabilitation center for spinal cord injuries. Their goal is to “help individuals reclaim their lives and thrive despite injury…” Lew did just that. Over the years, he lived in various medical facilities. His parents, Joseph and Bloomie Boles, moved to Toronto to be near and support him.
Lew had a brilliant mind and trained as a computer programmer. He worked for a high-profile company and then retired. He was an advocate for self-reliance and community participation for individuals living with spinal cord injuries. He spoke to groups and supported one-on-one patients, giving them hope that they, too, could lead full lives despite their injuries.
Lew married Amy Cruz, the love of his life, on October 11, 2008. He had been advocating for more independent living accommodations for disabled people, and his wish to live independently came before he and Amy married. They moved into a bigger apartment in the building and lived there until his passing.
Asked by friends and family if he would change anything about his life, he would reply that he was happy and wouldn’t change a thing. In fact, he said, if not for his accident, he probably wouldn’t have met his lovely wife or so many wonderful people.
