In Loving Memory of Selina Wai Lin Lam
Selina Wai Lin Lam passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026, at the age of 79, after a courageous journey with lung cancer, surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 21, 1946, in Hong Kong, Selina, the big sister to her brothers and sister. She was a beacon of light and warmth to everyone who knew her. She found joy in people, and people found joy in her. Her door, and her heart, were always open.
From her youth, Selina was resolute in her calling to teach. She devoted twenty-eight years to the Primary Section of True Light School of Hong Kong, where she rose to the position of 主任, or Senior Teacher, entrusted with the leadership of more than forty educators and the oversight of the school’s daily operations, second only to the principal. In 1992, she was named a recipient of the Hong Kong Outstanding Educators Award. Following her move to Toronto in 1997, she joined Yip’s Chinese School in 1998, where over the next twenty-two years she helped grow the school in a significant way. She gave generations of Chinese immigrant children a lasting connection to their Cantonese roots, language, and culture, serving faithfully until her retirement in 2020.
In her free time, Selina enjoyed drawing and cherishing moments with family and friends. A woman of deep faith, she embarked on many beautiful pilgrimages throughout her life, traveling to Israel, Medjugorje, Taiwan, Turkey, and Greece.
Selina is survived by her husband, Sanford, her two loving daughters, Lily and Rosa, and her siblings Paul, Joannes, Joseph, and Catherine. She is predeceased by her parents, Peter and Margaret.
A visitation and funeral mass for Selina will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 12:00 noon at Chinese Martyrs Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Odette Cancer Program - Sunnybrook Foundation, Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation, Fountain of Love and Life, and Lung Cancer Canada.
