KAREN MAE RYMAL passed away peacefully on April 17, 2026 at Scarborough General Hospital surrounded by loved ones.

Karen’s life was her music (piano, organ and coaching classical singers). From the very early age of 12 she began teaching others and she lived this passion right up until the last few weeks of her life. She never stopped thinking about how she could help students excel as musicians and achieve their career goals, always improving the outcome so they could be the best they could possibly be.

Karen was born on March 7, 1945, in West Flamboro in the old family farmhouse of her father’s parents, in the middle of a raging snowstorm. The Doctor arrived long after Karen’s grandmother had successfully delivered her into the world at only three and a half pounds. She was a fighter from the very beginning and did not give up her fight from gastric cancer until the very last day.

Karen was survived by her two sisters June and Carol, June’s partner Roger and Carol’s husband Glenn, her nieces and nephews; Yvonne (Rob), Julie (Brandon), Daniel (Kerrie), and great nieces and nephews; Krynn, Dylan, Quentin, Tyson, Tristan, Paige and Chloe. She was predeceased by her father Eldon Rymal, mother Mae Rymal (Bye), brother Jimmy, nephew Sandy and her most cherished partner of over 50 years Sandra McArthur.

Karen will be greatly missed by her family, friends and students. We wish Karen peace, tranquility and guidance in her journey forward.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation or the Scarborough Health Network or the Music Department at The Church of the Incarnation.

Visitation will be held on Friday May 8th, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 and from 6:00 to 8:00 at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home, 375 Mount Pleasant Rd, Toronto.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday May 9th, 2026 at 2:00 pm, at The Church of the Incarnation, 15 Clairtrell Rd, North York.
