June Chong (nee Kwan) passed away peacefully at her home in Toronto on April 20, 2026. She was surrounded by her loving family and all her grandchildren.
Born in China on 1934, she emigrated to Canada in 1949 and married the love of her life, Marvin Chong, in 1955. They spent 80 incredible years of their lives together from their time as young school children in China to becoming great grandparents in Canada. Together, they forged a remarkable life based on family, love, respect and hard work.
June was the quintessential “mom” who always provided unwavering love and a nurturing base for her children Rita (Duane) and Alex (Shirley).
She will be sorely missed by her loving grandchildren Joel (Elizabeth), Daniel (Darlene), Katie, Kevin, her granddog Mookie and her absolutely adorable great-grandchildren Cooper, Francis and Junia.
June will be remembered for her memorable recipes - “the world’s best ribs” and for teaching her children and grandchildren to play Mah Jong during summer weekends up at the family farm. Always the shark, June was the queen of “Doo Moo” much to the consternation of any member of the younger generation who dared to challenge her.
The family wishes to thank the tireless and exceptional staff at North York General, Sunnybrook General and the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
