With deep love and profound sadness, the family of John Jano Vanek announces his passing on July 20, 2026, after a short illness. John died peacefully at Scarborough General Hospital (Birchmount), surrounded by his wife, daughter and son-in-law.

John leaves behind his devoted wife, Maryann Vanek, and his beloved daughter Michelle Falone, her husband Dan, and their daughter Elora, who brought him endless joy. He is also remembered fondly by his nieces Anna and Sonja, and by their families, all of whom held a special place in his heart.

A man of many passions, John found happiness in the simple and meaningful rhythms of life. He loved tending to his garden, playing bridge and bingo, and losing himself in a good book. He cherished time spent with family and friends, and he was known for being the first to offer help, guidance, or a thoughtful word. John was also a Mason, valuing the fellowship and purpose it brought to his life. His generosity of spirit was matched only by his quick wit—John was forever young at heart, always ready with a joke, a story, or a speech that could light up a room.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend—someone who lived with kindness, humour, and an open heart. His presence made life brighter, and his absence leaves a space that will be felt deeply by all who knew him.

The family extends their gratitude to the staff at Scarborough General (Birchmount) for their care and compassion.

John’s memory will be carried forward in the laughter he inspired, the wisdom he shared, and the love he gave so freely.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Kidney Foundation.
