Joanne Florence Thompson (née Gibson), of Mississauga, Ontario, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 23, 2026, at the age of 94. Born in Toronto, Ontario on May 29, 1932, to Robert MacArthur Gibson and Lillian Josefine Gibson (née Ryan), Joanne lived a life marked by kindness, strength, and a genuine care for the people around her.
She attended St. Clement’s Girls School and then worked as a secretary with the University of Toronto's Town Planning Group before marrying Donald Cameron Thompson on June 23, 1956. Together they created a loving home for their two sons, David and Michael in North York, Ontario. After Donald's passing in 1974, Joanne took over his business as an Independent General Insurance Broker.
Joanne was known for being generous, resilient, and deeply family-oriented. She had a warm way of making others feel at ease and sincerely cared about people. She loved hearing about their lives and sharing her own stories, and she was well-liked by everyone who knew her. Joanne enjoyed social teas, playing bridge, swimming, travelling to the British Isles, and spending time at the cottage on Seabreeze Road near Huntsville. These pleasures, along with the company of those she loved, were part of the life she cherished.
Joanne will be dearly missed by her sons, David (Eva) and Michael (Michelle), her grandchildren, Cynthia (Mark), Tina, and Stephanie, and great-grandchildren, Mason and Mackenzie.
