It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Dr. James Chiew on September 26, 2026.
James was a loving husband to Martha Wong, his wife of 14 years, and an incredible father to their three beautiful children, Kaylee, Lucas, and Kina. Martha was his partner in everything and the life they built together meant everything to him. His family was the centre of his world and everything he did was for them.
James was a bright light in the lives of so many. He had a gift for making people feel loved, seen, and special. Whether you were family, a friend, a colleague, or a patient, he had a way of making you feel like you were the most important person in the room. He was warm, funny, and full of life. Despite all that he carried, he had a remarkable ability to make every person feel worthy of his full attention.
James’s professional life was a reflection of his ambition and drive. He was a go-getter who was never afraid to dream big, and no idea ever seemed too large for him. After earning his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from New York Chiropractic College in 2011, he founded MetaTherapy in 2012 as its sole practitioner. Together, he and his wife Martha grew it from a one-person practice into a team of more than 25 practitioners. In 2022, he launched MetaLab, expanding his vision for health and wellness even further.
What James built was more than a business. It became a community of patients, practitioners, and colleagues that he cared deeply about. He was an inspiring mentor and leader who encouraged others to believe in themselves and made them feel less afraid to go after the things they dreamed of.
James accomplished so much in his 41 years, but his greatest legacy will always be the love and laughter he gave so freely. It lives on in Martha, in Kaylee, Lucas, and Kina, in the countless people whose lives he touched, and in everything he worked so hard to build.
James will be deeply missed, endlessly loved, and forever remembered.
James is survived by his loving wife, Martha Wong; their three children, Kaylee, Lucas, and Kina; his parents, Chong Ming and Ying Kay Chiew; and his siblings, Karen and Louis Chiew.

Honouring James’s Legacy
For those who have asked how they can honour James and show their support, one of the most meaningful ways is to continue supporting MetaTherapy and MetaLab. Both clinics remain fully operational, and their dedicated teams of practitioners are carrying on the work James was so passionate about.
You can support the clinics by booking an appointment, purchasing a MetaTherapy or MetaLab gift card online, or simply spreading the word about the clinics.
For those unable to visit the clinics, a GoFundMe has also been created as another way to support Martha and their three children during this incredibly difficult time.
