Born in Riga, Latvia on November 4th, 1931. Ita passed away peacefully on April 28, 2026 in Etobicoke/Toronto at the age of 94.
Beloved wife of Visvaldis Ozols. Loving mother of Edita, Mara, Valdemars and Carlos. Predeceased by her parents Adolfs and Alma Vilmanis. Loving sister of Ilmars Vilmanis.
Ita immigrated to Argentina where she studied at the University of Buenos Aires, Faculty of Architecture and Urban Studies graduating in 1962. At the same time studied art with well known artists obtaining an intensive work experience and knowledge in watercolour, oil, ink and mixed media techniques.
She was active in the Argentinian Latvian Community where she met and married (her long life partner of almost 70 years) Visvaldis, and started family life raising four children.
In 1976, she and her husband moved the family to Canada and established a new life for all in Toronto. All four children attended higher education and started their own families - blessing Ita and Visvaldis with 8 grandchildren and 4 greatgrandchildren.
In addition to family and work responsibilities, Ita found time to advance her studies in advertising and graphic art, multi media and computer generated art.
Her passion for Latvian folk songs and traditional Latvian design were part of her artistic illustrations both by hand and computer generated.
In association with her husband Visvaldis, they created Latvian pattern designs in wood decorations, many donated to museums in Latvia or displayed in Toronto buildings and homes. Another one of her passions was her interest in other aspects of Latvian traditions researching and collecting distaffs.
Over the years she also displayed her works (paintings and graphics) in numerous solo exhibitions, juried and group art shows. Her illustrations appeared in many local and Latvian publications, books and newspapers.
Both Ita and Visvaldis were keen travellers, visiting many places including Southern Argentina, Brazil, Europe, Japan, Egypt, and Australia. Ita also loved music and was an avid singer of Latvian songs at family gatherings and events, participating in choirs in her youth.
Ita will always be in our hearts.
