Ian Forbes, born in Wishaw, Scotland in 1940, the only child of Jim and Jean (Radcliffe).
Immigrated to Canada and landed in Oshawa in 1955.
Following graduation from OCCI in 1959, he began an over 40-year career with General Motors, latterly as a Purchasing Department Commodity Specialist.
A loving husband to Gail (Schoenau) and father to Deanna (Dean), Trevor (Kelly), Sharleen Patterson and Owen Patterson (Angela). Beloved grandfather to Evan Brown, Grace Patterson, Fiona Finley, Sean Finley and Cole Patterson.
Ian's joy in life, along with family and travelling was signing. His deep rich bass voice was enjoyed by several long-term associations with GM Male Voice Choir; County Town Singers, Sounds Great and his favourite male quartet: Claidhmor. Along the way, he performed on stage with the Scugog Choral Society and Oshawa Little Theatre and lent his voice to many church choirs.
He had a passion for curling and golf but was constantly reminding himself and others, that it was only a game and was meant to be enjoyed.
A well-respected individual especially within the GM supplier community, and fiercely fought for his Canadian suppliers. He often would ask a supplier to make sure they could afford to do business with GM.
He will be remembered by his cousins in Scotland and the United States and his public high school friend Robert in Larkhall, Scotland.
