With hearts full of gratitude and sorrow, our beloved mother, Hung Kam Chan, passed away peacefully on September 28th, 2026 at the age of 99 from natural causes at St. Michael's Hospital in downtown Toronto.
Our mother was an extraordinary woman who was well educated and possessed beautiful penmanship in Chinese and English. She was a devoted mother and always put her family first. She made a tough decision to leave Hong Kong and immigrated to Canada in the late 1970's so that we could all have a better future. We have not disappointed her and have shared our successes in school, career and communities throughout our journey.
As she aged, it was our turn to take care of her. We promised her that we will continue to take every step with her as long as she is willing and able to do so. We never stopped loving her when her dementia would not allow her to remember our names. We became her eyes and ears when she lost more than half of her vision from Age-Related Macular Degeneration and normal hearing loss. We never cared if she could not walk properly because we could take her around in a wheelchair. We would always find an excuse to take her out to see the sun and feel the breeze and have her favourite dim sum. We showered her with love and spoiled her in many ways that she deserved. We will miss her dearly.
She is survived by her daughters, Winnie and Bernice.
On October 3rd, 2026, a brief and private service will be held at the request of our mother. We apologize that this service is not opened to friends and relatives. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations to be made to St. Michael’s Hospital Foundation in her memory.
