It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Helen Marinos, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who reached the remarkable age of 89. Born on March 15, 1937, in Sparti, Greece, she was the cherished daughter of Kiriakoula and Vagelis Bissa. Helen peacefully departed this world on May 13, 2026, after a courageous battle with a terminal illness.

Helen's early years were spent in the olive orchards of Greece, where she tended to her beloved horse, animals, and olive trees, while caring for her siblings—Dina, Nick, and Pota—after the loss of their mother. Seeking new opportunities, she moved to Canada, where she met her husband, Thomas. Together, they raised a beautiful family, welcoming six children into their lives: Spiro, Georgia, Vinny, Sandy, Jimmy, and Emanuel. In 1973, Helen and Thomas built a home in Sparti, Greece, a place she was immensely proud of, reflecting her deep connection to her Greek heritage and her unwavering faith in the Orthodox religion. Her love for her homeland was evident in her cherished lemon and orange trees in Greece, as well as the vibrant flowers and gardens she cultivated in Canada. Helen was also a talented knitter, creating beautiful designs for her entire family. Throughout her life, Helen worked tirelessly, holding various jobs as a seamstress, Cook,nanny, and caregiver. Her dedication to her family was unwavering, always striving for the best for them. Helen's energy and spirit were infectious; she filled every moment with passion, determination, and laughter, often dancing and singing to her favourite songs.

Helen leaves behind her six beloved children, nine grandchildren—Eleni, Maria, Tommy, Voula, Danny, Phillip, Patricia, Carmella and Elias—and five great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward her vibrant legacy. Helen Marinos will always be remembered for her strength, love, and the joy she brought to everyone around her. She touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

The Visitation will take place at Elgin Mills Funeral Centre (1591 Elgin Mills Road East. (905) 737-1720)) on Tuesday, May 19th, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

The Funeral will take place at Sts. Panteleimon, Anna & Paraskevi Greek Orthodox Church of Markham (11323 Warden Ave. ((905) 887-7311) on Wednesday, May 20th, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Interment to follow at Elgin Mills Cemetery.
