Helen (Elizabeth) Angus passed away peacefully on October 2, 2026. Named after her mother, Elizabeth will be remembered for her warmth, joyful spirit, and thoughtful care for those around her.
Born in Toronto, Elizabeth grew up in a loving family and treasured the relationships she built throughout her life. She was predeceased by her parents, Frederick Robert Angus and Helen Minard Kirkpatrick, and by her sister, Heather Jeanette Woolfrey, who died in 1996.
Elizabeth will be lovingly remembered by her nephews, Robert (Tanya) and David Woolfrey. Her great-nephew and great-nieces, Johannes, Esther, and Freyja, were the apple of her eye. She loved watching them grow and delighted in singing and dancing with them. She was especially close to her brother-in-law, John, who predeceased her, and to her sister-in-law, Shannon Woolfrey. She is also fondly remembered by Frank and Evemarie Ell, Tara (Jonathan) Lahey and Sean (Heather) Saigeon and their families, with whom she shared many holidays and gatherings together.
Elizabeth worked for more than 25 years at Crown Life Insurance Company in downtown Toronto, first as a secretary and later as head librarian. After retiring, she cared for her mother and volunteered for many years in the spiritual care department at Mississauga Hospital.
Faith was central to Elizabeth’s life. A member of Kingsway Baptist Church for more than 73 years, she was its longest-serving member. She sang in the chancel choir for many years, taught Sunday school, and worked in the church nursery. Through the church, she formed some of her closest friendships.
Elizabeth cherished her summers in Oliphant, Ontario, which she called “heaven on earth.” She tended her garden, explored the area, searched for antiques and gifts to share, and found joy in creating artwork.
A celebration of Elizabeth’s life will be held at Kingsway Baptist Church on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 11 a.m. Visitation with the family will begin one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Elizabeth’s memory may be made to the music ministry at Kingsway Baptist Church.
The family would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to the care team and staff at Cawthra Gardens Long-Term Care for the kindness and comfort they provided Elizabeth over the past few years.
