In Loving Memory of Helen (Elly) Colomvakos
June 15, 1932 – October 12, 2026
It is with heavy hearts, that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved matriarch, Helen (Elly) Colomvakos, in her 95th year. Helen passed on Monday, October 12, 2026, on Thanksgiving Day. While the day is traditionally reserved for giving thanks for life's blessings, her family remains eternally grateful for the ultimate blessing of her love, warmth, and guidance for so many beautiful years.
Born on June 15, 1932, in the city of Sparta, Greece, Helen’s life was a testament to devotion, resilience, and unconditional love. As a brave young woman in her 20s, fueled by determination, she left a Greece ravaged by the great depression, WWII and the Greek civil war to immigrate to Canada. She was tasked with the heavy responsibility of bringing her family over to Canada in hopes of bettering their lives as well. It was there that she met her husband, George, and together they built a life rooted in family, faith, and community.
One thing was for certain, Helen poured her heart into her home. She expressed affection through her incredible cooking and baking, where her family gathered every single Sunday. Those dinners were more than just meals; they were the heartbeat of her family, filled with laughter, storytelling, and the comfort of her presence.
Helen's legacy of love lives on through her devoted children, Kathy (Chris), Terry (James), and Jim, and her dear sister, Bessie (Jim). She was the epitome of joy as a grandmother, endlessly proud of Helena, Lucas, and Mia, who will carry her spirit forward.
Helen is now reunited in eternal peace with George, her parents Christos and Katina, and her sister Eugenia.
Though Helen will be profoundly missed by her family and lifelong friends, the warmth of her beautiful soul will undoubtedly remain with us forever.
In tribute to Helen’s generous spirit and in lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada to help support others in need.
