It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Harry Yee Seto on April 19, 2025 at the age of 84. He died after a long battle with cancer, but thankfully during his last week he was made as comfortable as possible at the Yee Hong Peter K. Kwok Hospice.
Harry is survived by his wife of 51 years Evelyn Ying Yue, son Jenning (wife Margaret), and daughter Gina (husband Kendrick). He is also dearly missed by his beloved grandchildren: Magnus, Maya, Max, Elsy and Serena.
Harry was born in Taishan, Guangdong, China on July 6, 1940 and immigrated to Huntsville, Ontario in 1955 to live with his maternal grandfather, uncle, and cousins. He spent many happy years growing up there in Northern Ontario, working at the restaurant and attending school - and even earning a musician's wage as a flautist in the Muskoka Concert Band. He moved to Montreal, Quebec in 1966, and eventually earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering at McGill University. It was at McGill that he met his classmate and good friend Michael Kwong, and it was in Montreal that he met his future wife, Evelyn. After getting married and joyfully welcoming a son and a daughter, the couple decided to relocate the family to Toronto, Ontario in 1979.
Throughout the years Harry never forgot about his family back in China. He wasn't a great correspondent but he sent a monthly stipend like clockwork to his mother in order to help care for his four brothers and two sisters.
Harry and his family moved again one last time to the house on Nettlecreek in 1987. He was proud of his home and his garden, and was delighted when a pear tree gifted to him by his cousin Henry flourished in his backyard. Many friends and family have been treated to some of those delicious pears or pear by-products.
Harry believed in being independent and not bothering others, but was always willing to help family and friends that needed assistance. He had a quirky sense of humour which he passed onto his children. He also enthusiastically attempted to share with his family his love of fishing, classical music, Star Trek, Star Wars, Dr. Who, Radio Shack, WWF, bicycles, remote controls, clocks, meat thermometers; the list goes on.
Our memories of Harry are very precious. We will miss making more memories with him, but we are thankful for all that he gave us.
In lieu of flowers, the Seto family suggests making a donation to the Yee Hong Foundation for the Yee Hong Peter K. Kwok Hospice: https://www.yeehong.com/donation-form/
