It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hanno Randmaa, P.Eng, on July 24, 2024 at age 89.

Hanno was born on November 1, 1934 in Estonia. He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 63 years, Malle, along with sons Steven (Colette), Edward (Nikki) and grandchildren: Madeleine, Luc, Ryan, Sarah, Simone, Ella and Tallula. He will also be missed by his sisters Liivia and Mai along with countless family and friends. Hanno was predeceased by his sons, Richard and Thomas, as well as his kid brother Erik.

In reflecting on his journey through life, it was not easy, but certainly awe inspiring when you think about it. Early in his life, during the Second World War, he along with his Mother and siblings, fled Estonia and sought refuge in a number of European countries. Their journey led them to start a new life in Paraguay, South America in 1948. As a young man, at 14, he was tasked with many things a 14 year old should not have to worry about. In a new foreign country, he helped provide for the family, educated himself, learned new languages. In 1957 the family immigrated to Canada to again, start a new life in a new country.

In Canada, he met and married his wife Malle in 1960 and they started to grow their family. He knew it was wise to continue his education. 1969 was the year that Hanno graduated from the University of Toronto with a BSc in Civil Engineering. With degree and engineering license in hand, he sought out challenges and projects that would occupy his mind well into years where others would be happily retired. He just couldn't stop. We all believed that was a typical engineer. Throughout the years he developed and fostered many lifelong relationships with other engineers, contractors and business colleagues in the construction world.

Hanno had many interests including a love for sports, music, opera, and playing harmonica (an instrument which he often gifted to his grandchildren, for those that would listen).

Well versed in many languages including Estonian, Spanish, Guarani, German and English, just to name a few.

He had a kind heart and was a mentor to many people whom he felt needed or would appreciate his expertise. He was extremely dedicated to his family and professional endeavors. He will be sadly missed.
