Grazeline Ellis (née Wright), beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026, in Toronto, Canada at the age of 90 surrounded by her loving family and friends. Born on January 26, 1936, (officially recorded as February 28, 1936) in Jointwood, Jamaica, and raised in Elderslie, St. Elizabeth, she lived a life defined by resilience, generosity, and an adventurous spirit that carried her across countries, cultures, and decades.
Grazeline had a gift for caring for others. She loved cooking, and she made sure no one ever left her home hungry — or without feeling loved. Her kitchen was a place of comfort, laughter, and connection, where she nourished not only bodies but hearts. She worked in hospitality, a field that perfectly matched her nature: warm, welcoming, and always attentive to the needs of those around her.
She also had a remarkable sense of adventure. Whether traveling near or far, she embraced new experiences with curiosity and joy. Her stories, her courage, and her willingness to explore the world inspired everyone who knew her.
Grazeline leaves behind a family who adored her: her children Cynthia, Marcia, Lennox, Paul and Ronald; her grandchildren Septembre, Chantel, Ritchie and Francine; and her great grandchildren Kaya and Reign. She is also lovingly remembered by her sisters Valrie and Yucca, her brothers Trevor and Lestroy, and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends whose lives she touched with her kindness.
She is preceded in death by her soulmate Rupert, who passed in May 2026, her son Conrad, siblings Iris, Thelma, Colin, and Millard whom she now joins in eternal rest. Their reunion brings comfort to those who mourn her, knowing she is surrounded by love once again.
A celebration of Grazeline’s life will honour the remarkable woman she was — her strength, her compassion, her adventurous heart, and the legacy of love she leaves behind. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit lives on in the meals she taught us to make, the stories she shared, and the countless ways she made the world brighter for those fortunate enough to know her.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Lai and the House Calls team, as well as Dr. Jassal and team at the Kidney Clinic at University Health Network, Bernard and Ilyas at the Neighbourhood group and Ramil from St. Elizabeth Health for their exceptional care, compassion, and support.
A Celebration of Grazeline's Life will be held on Tuesday, July 28 at 2 p.m. (visitation from 1 to 2 p.m.) at York Cemetery and Funeral Centre. Burial at York Cemetery, with Reception to follow.
