Giuseppe (Pino) Gareri passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026 at Baycrest Centre after a very brief stay in palliative care. Born April 9, 1933 in Sant'Onofrio, Calabria, Italy, he was the fourth of six children, to Vincenzo Gareri & Giuseppa Barbieri. Pino is survived by his sister Antonietta (Nina), predeceased by his brothers Nicola and Francesco and his sisters Maria and Caterina. He leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews here in Toronto: Rose (Raffaele), Vince (Gabriella), Palma (John), Josie (Aucke), Maria (Tom, sadly recently deceased) and Diana (Bill); in Italy: Enzo (Alessandra), Raffaele (Donata) and Donatella; and in Argentina: Pietro (Susanna), Enzo and Maria Giuseppa; and many great-nieces and -nephews.

Pino immigrated to Toronto Canada in the early 1960s to join his sisters Nina and Caterina. He spent his working life as a bricklayer and, since retiring almost 30 years ago, Pino has enjoyed his time in the company of his good friends and family as well as spending many hours passionately watching soccer games on TV. From his arrival in Canada, "Zio Pino" was always a big part of the lives of his nieces and nephews here, always present as part of their families. He also continued to stay very connected to his nieces and nephews in Italy and Argentina regardless of distance.

Pino was a much loved member of his siblings' families and we are blessed that he was with us until age 93 living a long, happy and healthy life.
