With deep love and sorrow, we announce the passing of George (Georgios) Antoniou (Adoniou on May 14, 2025, at the age of 81. He passed away suddenly and peacefully at home after battling issues with lung disease.
Born in Patra, Greece in 1944 during the war, Georgios was the 2 youngest children of Haralabos and Eleni and one of ten siblings. His early life was shaped by the strength of family and the resilience of his generation. In 1970, he immigrated to Canada with his wife at the time, determined to build a new life filled with hope and opportunity.
In the late 1980s, Georgios returned to Greece to reconnect with his roots and pursue business ventures. Six years ago, he came back to Canada to be near his children and grandchildren, embracing the joy and comfort of family life in his later years.
A deeply kind and compassionate man, Georgios was always quick to lend a hand and share whatever he had with others. He was especially passionate about supporting the blind community in Greece, a cause close to his heart, as one of his children is blind. He dedicated himself to advocacy and service with quiet strength and unwavering love.
He was known for his zest for life and his joy in simple pleasures—especially dancing the bouzouki and watching soccer, which he loved with great enthusiasm. Whether it was a local game or an international match, he could be found cheering on any team with excitement. He also had a deep love for animals and would often stop to feed strays or bring them home to care for them. His gentle nature extended to all creatures, great and small.
Though he was a quiet and humble man, his passions, humour, and warm presence left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
We take great comfort in knowing he is with the Lord. He believed in forgiveness, and in the power of faith to bring not just healing, but a holy new beginning and salvation. We will see him again in Heaven.
He leaves behind Panagiota, his daughter in law Christine and his beloved children, Helen, Bobby, and Elsa; his cherished granddaughter, Alexandra, and grandson, Christian; and many loving relatives and friends in both Canada and Greece.
A Celebration of George’s Life will be held on Saturday June 7, 2025, at THORNTON FUNERAL CENTRE (1200 Thornton Road North, Oshawa, 905-579-6787) with visitation at 12pm, until time of private service at 1pm.

Forever in our hearts—may his memory be eternal.
