GEORGE BOUJOFF, M.D., D.PSYCH., F.R.C.P. (C)
DISTINGUISHED PSYCHOANALYST
MARCH 15,1937 MAY 19, 2025
It is with deep sorrow and respect that we mark the passing of Dr. George Boujoff, who died peacefully at the age of 88, following a long period of declining health.
A devoted psychoanalyst, he remained in active clinical practice until the final chapter of his life, steadfast in his commitment to the betterment of others through understanding the human mind.
Dr. Boujoff was born and raised in Toronto, and graduated from Lawrence Park Collegiate before earning his medical degree from the University of Toronto in 1962. He had fond memories of a summer spent as a medical student in Modesto, California, and of his first year residency in Denver, Colorado. He did not wish to stay in the US, because he was afraid of being drafted for Vietnam, and because, as we are all now appreciating, he was a proud Canadian. He was a trained Freudian analyst, and served for years as a training analyst with the Toronto Psychoanalytic Institute. His work was very important to him, and to that end he wanted to help his patients understand themselves better and live happier lives.
Throughout his lifetime, Dr. Boujoff exhibited a remarkable intellectual curiosity. Even in his later years, he remained fully engaged with contemporary events, and the evolution of psychological thought. He was an avid reader and collector with eclectic tastes, spanning history, particularly the American Civil War, and Abraham Lincoln whose impact on George was profound. His love of collecting extended to art deco furniture, ink-wells, and the works of 1980's American artist Patrick Nagel, of whom George was once the largest private collector in Canada.
George's impact on all those who knew him was immeasurable. He enriched their lives by his generosity of spirit, love and kindness, his magnificent encyclopedic mind and memory for details. His infectious sense of humour was one of his most outstanding characteristics, not to mention his love and knowledge of fine wines and all the best foods.
Predeceased by his first daughter Lisa, and his sister Mitzi (Lou), he leaves behind to mourn his deeply loved and devoted partner, Judith Collard; his loving daughter, Laura Boujoff; his cherished grandchildren, Viola and Roland; his treasured sister, Leny Ware and his caring brother-in-law Barry Ware; his loved and loving niece Marisa Fournier, her husband Adam Fournier, and his loving great-niece Regan Fournier; numerous, cherished extended family; many dearly loved close friends; and countless patients and colleagues.
Deepest appreciation is extended to his wonderful family physician, Dr. Francesco Leanza, and all his kind, supportive personal support workers, with special gratitude to his nightly, devoted caregiver, Fredericka Cousins.
Celebration of life to follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to your charity of choice would be appreciated.
