Fred Ying Man Mah, 94, passed away on Sunday July 12, 2026 at Markham Stouffville hospital in Markham, ON.

He was born in China on November 27, 1931. He met his beautiful wife, Pat Bik King Seto Mah in Guangdong, China. He emigrated to Hong Kong and then to Camrose, AB, Rosetown, SK, and finally to Toronto, ON in 1954. His wife Pat arrived in Toronto in 1960 and they married the same year.

With his brothers, they opened and operated the Mia Kai restaurant in Niagara Falls, ON for many years. During this time, he helped raise 2 sons, Gordon and Nelson who were born in 1965 and 1968.

Fred was a longtime volunteer at the Mah Society in Chinatown Toronto which is Chinese family association formed to support early immigrants and a community hub. He was also an avid stock investor and loved reading the Globe and Mail, Forbes and Fortune magazines to further his investment knowledge. Fred enjoyed dim sum and long walks with his wife along with a hot cup of coffee.

He is survived by his wife, 2 sons, 4 granddaughters and one grandson. He is preceded in death by his mother, stepmother and father, many relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 9.30am to 10.30 am York Cemetery in Toronto. The funeral service will follow at 10.30am and interment at 11.30am.
