Frances (Frannie) passed away quietly at Sunnybrook Hospital (Toronto) on Monday September 7, 2026 at the age of 74. In her final hours she was surrounded by her extended family.

Frannie was born in Toronto on November 3, 1951, the youngest daughter of the late Dr. Reginald and Margaret (Milne) Haist. She was predeceased by her beloved partner Gordon Stewart Membery and her step-children, Frank and Diana.

Frannie will be lovingly remembered by her siblings, Lynda, David (Terri), Stephen (Dianne) and Peggy (Oliver Bertin) She will be fondly remembered by her nieces, nephew and their families, Jennifer Pullen (Dave Bennett), Christina (Ezzat Youssef), Marianne Haist, Katherine (Mark Wrogemann), Susan (David Navas) and Evan (Nadia Bedok). Predeceased by her nephew Michael Haist. She will be missed by her many step-nieces and step-nephews.

Frannie always wanted to be a nurse but later circumstances lead her into the sciences and she graduated from the University of Toronto with a BSc. She started her career at St Lawrence Sugar where she met Gord on the first day.

Frannie was the heart of the family. She kept in constant contact with friends and family members. She never forgot a birthday or anniversary and always attended special occasions. In her later years she developed COPD but she was a fighter and did not let ill health stop her.

A family service, interment and reception will be held on Sunday September 20, 2026 from 10:00 to 3:00 at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre, 375 Mount Pleasant Road, Toronto.

Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada and The Hospital for Sick Children may be made in memory of Frances Haist.

She will be greatly missed and will never be forgotten.
