Flora Pearl Martin passed away peacefully on Thursday July 23rd. at Gibson long term retirement home. She will be sadly missed by her son John, and spouse Wendy Ware, granddaughter, April, grandson, Jonathon, spouse Holly, great grand kids, Cici, Morley and Hunter, and the staff at Gibson. Flora was born on a rural farm in New Brunswick in 1925 to Walter Clark & Annie Fairweather, the eldest of 3 girls, Flora, Phyllis, and Yvonne. Being the eldest, she had to do the farm work that a man would have had to do, so life was tough. There was no hydro, no plumbing, no running water other than when you ran to the well for water. She left for the big city of St. John around 16 and worked in the sugar refinery. It was there she hooked up with "The Maritime Farmers" band and played on the local radio station CFNB for about 4 years. After the war she returned to the farm and met my dad John Martin at a local dance, and got married and moved to Minto N.B. I was born in 1955 and they decided to move up to Ontario so I wouldn't have to work in the mines like my dad. After my dad's passing in 1981, she me Paul Faith in Florida, and they travelled around Florida singing & playing together. After Paul's passing so again met a musician in Florida, Curley McCormick, who had his own travelling band back in the day. Together they were known as "The Two M's in Harmony" and at the age of 78 my mom made a CD called "Country to The Bone" She learned to play acoustic & electric, bass, 12 string guitars, violin, mandolin, and banjo. In 2005 she was inducted into America's old time Country Music hall of Fame, in 2020 inducted into the New Brunswick country hall of fame. Her good friend Michael T. Wall, the singing Newfoundlander, wrote a song on his CD entitled "Flora Played a Martin" as a tribute to her. She was never at a loss for words, loved to talk, to anyone, anywhere, and anytime, if there are pearly gates in heaven, she'll be there talking. We'll miss her stories, but remember those told, rest in peace mom
