November 1, 1938 - April 24, 2025

Elvera Nettie McFarlane (nee. Foster) passed away peacefully surrounded by her children and grandchildren on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Birchmount Hospital, in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada at age 86.

She was born in Merry Hill District, St Elizabeth, Jamaica. Elvera made the courageous decision to come to Canada in 1971, and lived many years in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada. After many years, she retired as a long-term employee at the Inn On The Park Hotel.

Elvera is preceded by her Son Junior, Father Adolphus, Mother Albertha, and daughter Valerie. She is survived by her loving Sons Winston (Pauline), Fitzroy (Kim), and Leon; and Daughters Alecia and Karen; Granddaughters Amanda, Lititia, Kristen, Deanna, Shanell, Carolyn, Hannah, Alexis and Ava; Grandsons Nathaniel, Jonathan, Joshua, Austin, Myles and Jeremiah; Great-grandchildren; Brothers Hubert, Earle, Melford, Astley, Basil, and Leslie; Sisters Sheila, Lamatha, Elorene, and Beverly.

Elvera had a huge heart, she was very generous and cared for many. The driving force behind her desire to move to Canada was to give her children a better life. Even with the challenge of teaching herself to read and write, she persevered. She faced every obstacle with poise and grace, and she was able to bring all of her her children to Canada, as well as some of her siblings. She didn’t stop there, she made sure that her family back in Jamaica were always taken care of. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren are the product of her successes.

She was a strong woman and was never afraid to speak her mind. She loved working in her garden, listening to music, watching soccer, and spending time with her grandchildren. Every holiday was fi lled with food and family at her dining table. She had an incredible sense of humour, and we will forever miss her infectious laughter.
