It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mom, Eileen Patricia MacLean, on October 2, 2026 at Michael Garron Hospital after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Eileen is survived by her husband Colin Sr, their three children, Colin (Tracy), Kerry, and Michael (Lesley) and three grandchildren; Abbey, and Cameron & Dylan (Foschia).
Eileen was born June 22, 1948 in Toronto, the youngest of three children of Frank and Margaret Doucette. She is predeceased by her parents and her siblings, Marg and Teddy. Eileen attended Kimberley Public School in Toronto’s beaches neighbourhood, followed by high school at St. Joseph’s. In 1964, she married Colin MacLean Sr and the children soon followed.
Eileen had several jobs in her early life and worked part time while raising the family. Circumstances led her to the Salvation Army as a medical office manager at the Harbour Light Centre, a job that brought her many years of pride, accomplishment and fellowship.
Eileen had a competitive spirit; she loved to play cards and games and never turned down an invitation to bingo or the casino. She had a creative side, spending several years on the Christmas Bazaar circuit, selling her handmade crafts. In her younger years she loved to dance and in every home she had, there was always music playing – country or gospel to stir or soothe the soul.
Eileen is described by many as kind, thoughtful and funny. Her extended family of cousins, nieces & nephews, aunts & uncles looked forward to seeing her at the annual family picnic and she liked to keep in touch in between, always grateful to be in the loop; to share a story, a sorrow or a laugh. She cherished many lifelong friendships and appreciated the community around her at Hendrick’s Court. Daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, cousin, friend and finally, grandmother. It was this last role that brought the most joy as she watched her grandchildren grow up and find their way. She was a proud mom and grandma.
The suddenness of her passing only adds to our grief. Her faith brought her strength over the years and in her final days provided comfort and peace and we draw from that as we say goodbye. We hope she is remembered with a smile and good story.
We invite you to join us on Saturday, October 24th, 2026 from 12pm-3pm, with tributes being shared at 2:00pm. Stay a little or stay a while as we celebrate mom’s life.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name to a charity or cause that is meaningful to you.
A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, November 5th at 10:30am, Canadian Martyrs Parish, 522 Plains Rd, East York, ON.
