Born in Toronto in 1930, Ted spent most of his life in Toronto, with some time spent in Montreal, both in his youth and as an adult. He met the love of his life, his wife Mary, when they were both in high school and they spent more than 75 years together raising their large family in St. Bruno, Quebec and Scarborough, Ontario.
A metallurgical engineer, Ted had a long career with Union Carbide Canada working in the area of graphite electrodes. Early in his career, he followed in his father's footsteps briefly working at Anaconda Mining. Ted ended his career with Union Carbide as the Director of Technical Services, a position about which he was passionate. His curiosity and passion for problem solving were a perfect fit for the troubleshooting that was the majority of his job.
Ted loved to be build things, do home repairs and be of service to others. He was also the original tech tinkerer. A life long learner, Ted was an early adopter of the personal computer, spending many hours in his office learning the ins and outs of computing. He enjoyed all the latest gadgets because he was truly fascinated by what made them tick.
With his wife Mary, Ted was the embodiment of hospitality. He would drop everything when someone arrived at the house. On more than one occasion, they opened their home to people in need of a place to stay, including some for extended periods.
Grand-Barachois, New Brunswick held a very special place in Ted’s heart. He enjoyed spending summers at the cottage - Plage Hirondelle - surrounded by friends and family.
A special thank you to Maggie, Seeta, Melanie, Donna, Mariam, Bola, Ivy, Michelle and Roseller for their compassionate care. We are grateful for the Scarborough Centre for Healthy Communities’ Palliative Care Team.
