Edeltraud “Trudy” Charlotte Willenbrecht (née Meckes) passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on March 22, 2026, at the age of 90.
Born in 1936 in Minden, Germany, Edeltraud was the beloved daughter of August and Else Meckes. She carried with her a deep sense of faith, family, and service throughout her life.
At the age of 18, in 1954, Edeltraud immigrated to Toronto, Canada, where she began a new chapter that would shape the rest of her life. It was there she met and married her devoted husband, Heinz, with whom she built a loving family and shared many cherished years.
Edeltraud was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She often fondly recounted the day of her baptism in 1947, when, on a snowy November day, she and her family traveled to a lake and broke through the ice so she could be baptized—a testament to her enduring faith and commitment. Throughout her life, she served faithfully in many roles within the Church and was a source of strength and compassion to her community.
She was known for her caring and generous spirit, offering comfort, guidance, and kindness to hundreds of people over her lifetime, both within and beyond her church community. Her dedication to helping others was also evident in her volunteer work. In 1973, she was selected by the PTA to serve as a “Grade Mother,” a role similar to what is now known as a Learning Support or Educational Assistant, where she supported and nurtured children in their educational journey.
Edeltraud will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Heinz; her sons, Gary (Sandy) and Ron (Erik); her cherished grandchildren, Jeff (Megan), Kris (Catherine), Brittany, Paisley, Brandon, and Nyomi; and her six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Monika (Bryce).
Edeltraud’s legacy is one of unwavering faith, compassion, and service. She touched countless lives with her kindness and will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and steadfast devotion to family and community.
Edeltraud will be laid to rest at Meadowvale Cemetery after a private family service.
