It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Doreen Jackson.
Doreen was born on May 17th, 1947, in Liverpool in the care of Loretta and John Clements.
She was the oldest of six siblings – Phil, Jean, Anne, Sue and Mandy – and spent her early years in a two-up two-down terraced house in Fazakerley.
A bright and clever student, Doreen attended Notre Dame College in Liverpool. When she was about fourteen, the family moved to West Derby to be closer to their grandfather. She remained there until meeting the love of her life, Keith Jackson.
Doreen and Keith were married on December 16th, 1967, at St Cecilia’s Church in Liverpool. Before the wedding they purchased an old Victorian town home in Runcorn, Cheshire, and the next seven years were spent renovating the house from top to bottom with lots of help from Doreen’s father, John.
In 1975, after Keith got a job offer in Canada, they made the very brave decision to start a new life abroad. They arrived in Montreal, Quebec, initially staying with Keith’s sister Lesley and her then husband Tom. Soon afterward, they settled in Pincourt, an island on the west side of Montreal.
Doreen and Keith moved once again, this time to the Greater Toronto Area. They rented a townhouse in Etobicoke while searching for a permanent home, eventually settling on Greenore Road in Mississauga, where they would build a life together.
On December 2nd, 1980, Doreen and Keith welcomed their son, Ian, into the world. He was their much-loved only child, and they delighted in watching him grow up. Doreen was very proud of Ian’s musical talents and followed his bands with keen interest, often going to watch him play. She also cared deeply for Ian’s partner, Claudia, and treasured the time they spent together.
Doreen made regular trips back to England and would often take Ian over so he could get to know his many cousins and family back home. Doreen loved to travel. In addition to her many visits to England, she explored much of Canada from coast to coast and visited several parts of the United States. Trips to British Columbia to visit her dear friend Gaynor were always among her favourites.
In later years, health challenges made travel more difficult. Nevertheless, Doreen continued to embrace the outdoor lifestyle she loved in Canada. With Keith proudly serving as the family’s “MasterChef of the BBQ,” countless happy hours were spent in their garden surrounded by family and friends.
Sadly, Keith passed away on May 26th, 2008, following a courageous two-and-a-half-year battle with cancer.
In her professional life, Doreen dedicated 22 years to Human Resources at Canadian Medical Laboratories before retiring in 2011.
After selling the family home on Greenore, Doreen moved just down the road to an apartment at Applewood-on-the-Park where she spent the next twelve years. There, she formed many lasting friendships and especially enjoyed spending her summers by the pool. She was deeply grateful for the friendship and support of Nancy and Art and their family, who meant so much to her over the years.
Doreen also became actively involved in several local seniors’ groups, enjoying the friendships, activities, and sense of community they provided.
Doreen will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, warmth, devotion to family, and the many lasting friendships she nurtured throughout her life. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the nurses, doctors (including Dr. Jory, Dr. Pataki and Dr. Kumar) and paramedics at Credit Valley Hospital and Mississauga General Hospital for their outstanding care, compassion and professionalism.
