Donald K. Thompson
October 3, 1930 – January 26, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald K. Thompson on January 26, 2025, in Scarborough, Ontario, at the age of 94.

Born on October 3, 1930, in Nelson, British Columbia, Don led a remarkable life filled with adventure, service, and dedication. He proudly served in the Royal Canadian Air Force from June 1955 to October 1962 as a Communications Technician, stationed on the DEW Line in Canada’s Arctic. After his military service, he returned to Southern Ontario, where he embarked on a long career with Bell Canada as an Electronics Engineer.

Never one to shy away from his passions, Don took early retirement to pursue his lifelong dream of flying. He loved piloting small Cessna planes and found great joy in soaring through the skies. Staying active, he enjoyed bowling with friends and later took on part-time work as a bus driver for the Toronto District French School Board, where he was recognized for his exemplary safety record over a decade of service.

Don is predeceased by Valerie Thompson (Lynch) and Nora Thompson (Fisher). He was a loving father to Steve, Glenn, Kim, Sandy, Kevin, and Kathleen, and a devoted stepfather to Robert, Heather, Valerie, Gary, and Kevin Lynch. He was a proud grandfather to Donald, Vince, Lyndsey, Scott, Sean, Michael, Krystal, Brittany, Taylor, Kayla and Laura, and a cherished great-grandfather to Adrian, Colin, Brooklyn, Ethan, Marley, Lennox, Cassandra, Nolan, Nicolas, Isabella, Olivia, Vinnie, Wyatt, Nash and Ari.

A funeral service to celebrate Don’s life will be held at Pine Hills Cemetery & Funeral Centre, 625 Birchmount Road, Toronto, on February 1st. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM and burial at noon.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Society in Don’s memory.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. Blue skies and tailwinds, Don.
