In memory of

Donald Edward Hewson

June 10, 1937 - May 17, 2026

Donald Edward Hewson passed away peacefully in Mississauga, Ontario, on May 17, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with heart and kidney disease.

Beloved husband of Yumi Inagaki for 44 wonderful years. Together, they shared a love of travel and enjoyed exploring the world side by side. Loving father of Vikki Um (Greg Um) and Blaine Hewson (Jeanette). He took great pride and joy in his four grandchildren, Iain Um, Eryn Um, Scott Hewson, and Andrew Hewson.

Don was predeceased by his parents, Florence (Thompson) and Donald Hewson. He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth (Harold) Bliss; sisters-in-law Miyo Hahn and Noriko Inagaki. He will be fondly remembered by his nephews Jon Guenther and Andrew Guenther, nieces Suzie Goldstein and Mari Hahn, and nephew, Philip Hahn.

Don had a lifelong curiosity and love of learning and followed in his father’s footsteps by attending the University of Toronto to study engineering, where he showed a natural strength in mathematics and analytical thinking. As a student, he contributed to work on the Avro Canada CF-105 Arrow firing control systems. Music was also an important part of his life, and he had a lifelong appreciation for classical music.

Following graduation, he began his career in Ottawa at the Canadian Patent Office. In 1975, he established the first patent practice in Mississauga, Ontario, where he built extensive experience filing and managing intellectual property portfolios on behalf of Canadian inventors and international corporations. In 1988, he joined Marks & Clerk in Ottawa, continuing to run his practice from Mississauga until his retirement.

Don will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A private family burial and service will take place at a later date.
