In Loving Memory of Dick Sor Mawk
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Dick Sor Mawk (莫迪娑), on Sunday, February 15th, 2026. Born in Sunwui (Xinhui), China on August 23, 1944, he lived a life defined by hard work, resilience, humour and deep love for his family.
Dick Sor was a devoted husband to his wife, Rebecca, and a proud and loving father to his children, Christine (Ambrose) and Kevin (Mary). He was an adoring grandfather to Hunter and Everett, who brought him endless joy and pride.
In his younger years, he worked in Hong Kong as an electronic service technician at Gilman & Co. Ltd. When he arrived in Canada, he was working at restaurants in Halifax and Toronto, where his passion for food and hospitality first took root. With determination and courage, he studied at George Brown College to upgrade his skills as a technician and started a career in repairing cathode-ray tube televisions and then employed by Chubb Alarm, installing and servicing alarm systems. Through hard work and perseverance, he eventually fulfilled his dream of opening his own restaurant, Golden Wok in Etobicoke. He took great pride in serving delicious meals and bringing people together around the table.
He was full of life and personality. He loved playing pong regularly, singing and dancing with enthusiasm, cooking and telling jokes that could light up any room.
Above all, Dick Sor was selfless and loving. He worked tirelessly for his family and always put others before himself. His legacy lives on in the values he instilled, the memories he created, and the joy he brought into our lives.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved. May he rest in peace.
The Visitation will take place at Elgin Mills Funeral Centre (1591 Elgin Mills Road East (905) 737-1720) on Saturday, February 28th, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 28th, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Elgin Mills Funeral Centre. Cremation to follow at Elgin Mills Cemetery at a later date.
The family welcomes flowers. For those who wish, donations may also be made to the Mon Sheong Foundation in loving memory of Dick Sor Mawk.
Celebration of Life Feast (解穢酒) will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 3:30pm at Golden Palace Banquet Hall (金廷宴) – 3225 Highway 7 E,. Unit 1, Markham, ON, L3R 3P3
