It is with profound sadness and unfathomable agony that we announce the untimely passing of Craig McDonald on September 12, 2024, at the age of 52.
Craig was the devoted and beloved son of Lachlan and Margaret McDonald of Brampton (Scotland), cherished husband of Elif and proud father of Aydin. He will be missed by many friends and family in Canada and Scotland. Uncle James (Margaret), Graeme (Margaret) Megan, Becky and Liam, Laura (Steve) Emily, Ross and Lucy, and countless extended family members. He will be missed dearly by his best friend Krikor, his uncle Sam, along with the lives of so many he touched. Craig was a good, kind and strong man, and was always willing to help others, truly cared about his community and was a proud Canadian.
Craig was born in North York, and raised in a sunny home with a big garden in Brampton. After Mayfield Secondary School, he graduated from the University of Ottawa. His career in finance soon took off and he thoroughly enjoyed his time working with some of the brightest and best in the Canadian Financial Sector. He did all this while raising his family and caring for his beloved parents.
A great hockey dad, he could be found at the rink multiple times a week cheering on Aydin skate. During the pandemic, he volunteered to do to the shopping and errands for family and friends. He would cut a neighbour's yard and shovel their snow without even a second thought if they couldn't. He was loved and toasted by his wife's extended family on travels to Istanbul and the Turkish Riviera, who honored him as the most favourite and handsome son-in-law. Craig was respectful and thoughtful of others at all times. He travelled across Canada and the US for work and made friends wherever he went. He especially loved the California coast.
He was the most supportive husband to an ambitious wife who cared for him and fought courageously to ensure he got the best care he could.
He took his final breaths as the summer sun was setting, and we like to think he caught the last rays of sunshine to a better place, to God's Kingdom in Heaven. Finally free of the prostate cancer that had quickly and wickedly took an honorable, decent man, all too soon.
Please see details on the funeral below, please contact Elif if you can to confirm you can make it, he loved flowers, so don't be shy about it. I think he would be happy if you came to say good bye.
