Ngo Chi-Vi (吳志偉) passed away on August 9, 2026, at the age of 69, surrounded by his family and friends.

Born in Hanoi, Vietnam in 1957, Chi-Vi later made Canada his home, where he built a life surrounded by family and many good friends.

Those who knew Chi-Vi will remember him as easygoing, generous and almost always smiling or laughing. He lived simply and within his means and never felt the need to impress anyone. He was comfortable being exactly who he was, and whether he had a lot or a little, he was always willing to share what he had.

He was also the cook in the family, and anyone who knew him knew how much he loved to feed people. There was always something being cooked, something being saved for someone, or someone being told to come over and eat. Many of the best memories his family and friends have of him were made around the table.

Chi-Vi also had a special way of holding onto friendships. Some went back decades, and many continued despite people living across Canada, the United States, Vietnam and China. They didn't have to see each other all the time to remain close. They called, visited, travelled together, helped each other when needed and always found a way to stay connected.

Since his passing, his family has heard from so many of those friends. They have shared stories, offered help and continued to check in. Seeing how deeply he is missed has reminded us just how many people loved him and how much his friendship meant to them.

Chi-Vi is survived by his daughters, Sana and Maggie; his grandchildren, Riley and Hailey; his siblings, Trinh, Susan, Quyên and Mike; and many extended family members and dear friends around the world.

He will be remembered for his generosity, his sense of humour, his cooking, and the many friendships he kept throughout his life. Most of all, he will be remembered for the simple ways he cared for the people around him.

He may not have considered himself a rich man, but seeing how many people are grieving him now, we know he was rich in all the ways that mattered.

He was deeply loved, and he will be deeply missed.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Elgin Mills Funeral Centre & Cemetery, 1591 Elgin Mills Road East, Richmond Hill. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m., followed by a chanting service at 11:00 a.m. and burial at 12:30 p.m.

A reception will follow at Dragon Legend, 25 Lanark Road, Markham, at 1:30 p.m.

Our family would also like to thank the staff at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital for the kindness and care they showed Chi-Vi during his final days.
