Catherine Joan Campbell was born in Timmins in 1947, beginning a life defined by quiet strength, deep compassion, and an unwavering kindness that shaped everyone who knew her.
Her early years were spent moving between communities as her family followed her father’s work with Indusmin Mines, a silica mining company. They eventually settled in Val-d’Or, Quebec, where Cathy attended Percival High School. It was there, as a cheerleader, that she met Wayne Leavoy on the football team. They found each other in Grade 8 and never left each other’s side. Their love was steady, enduring, and at the center of the life they built together.
Cathy and Wayne went on to raise four children—Angela, Julie, Lara, and Paul—and made their home in Sudbury, where Wayne worked at Inco Mines. In their home near Long Lake, Cathy created something truly special: a place where her children always felt safe, cared for, and deeply loved.
She was devoted to her family in every sense of the word. As a stay-at-home mother, she gave her children a kind of presence that shaped their lives in lasting ways. There were home-cooked meals, handmade Halloween costumes and dresses, and countless small, thoughtful acts that made everyday life feel full. She was always there—welcoming her children home, listening without distraction, and offering comfort without condition. Whether through familiar routines or the simple constancy of her presence, she created a home that felt warm, steady, and full of care.
She was also a deeply loving and devoted grandmother. Her grandchildren brought her immense joy, and she, in turn, made each of them feel special, seen, and cherished. They loved her dearly and will carry her warmth with them always.
To know Cathy was to feel seen. She listened deeply, loved easily, and offered a kind of steady presence that grounded the people around her. Her compassion, humour, and gentle spirit made her unlike anyone else—someone whose impact cannot be measured, only felt.
In later years, Cathy faced her dementia diagnosis with quiet strength and grace. Even as parts of her began to slip away, the essence of who she was remained unmistakable. Her warm smile and gentle sense of humour continued to shine through, offering moments of familiarity and comfort to those who loved her. In those moments, she was still, unmistakably, herself.
She will be deeply missed by her children, Angela (Patrick), Julie (Sergei), Lara, and Paul (Lara), and by her loving grandchildren, Reagan, Brennan, Ivan, Viktor, Oliver, Simone, and Estelle.
She was predeceased by her husband, Wayne Leavoy, and by her parents, Archie and Anne.
She leaves behind a family shaped by her love, and a legacy that lives on in the way they care for one another and for others. Her kindness continues in them—in how they listen, how they love, and how they move through the world.
As per Cathy’s wishes there will not be any service at this time. The immediate family will honour her privately.
