It is with deep sadness and loving remembrance that we honor the life of Can Thi Nguyen, a beloved mother, devoted family member, dedicated educator, and cherished friend to many, who passed away peacefully at Scarborough General Hospital at the age of 88.
Born on November 10, 1938, Can Thi Nguyen was the youngest daughter in a family of ten siblings. Throughout her life, she carried with her a remarkable intelligence, a generous heart, and a deep sense of responsibility toward those around her. She was a woman who believed in the value of education, the importance of kindness, and the power of helping others.
One of her proudest accomplishments was becoming a teacher after graduating in the first graduating class of the University of Education. As one of the youngest teachers of her time, she embraced her calling with enthusiasm, dedication, and compassion. She was deeply loved by her students, not only for her intelligence and knowledge, but also for her patience, kindness, and genuine commitment to their growth and well-being. To her, teaching was more than a profession; it was an opportunity to guide, encourage, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Can will be remembered most fondly for the person she was. She was smart, kind, and generous, always ready to help and support her family and anyone in need. She gave of herself freely, offering encouragement and practical wisdom whenever it was needed. Her care for others was not expressed through grand gestures, but through the many thoughtful and meaningful ways she showed up for the people in her life.
Those who knew Can will forever remember her uplifting smile, her clever jokes, and her wonderfully straightforward way of expressing herself. She had a special gift for getting straight to the heart of a matter, sharing her thoughts with clarity, wit, and wisdom. Her words could make people laugh, offer comfort, or bring perspective when it was needed most. Her presence brought warmth to conversations and a sense of reassurance to those fortunate enough to be near her.
To her family, Can was a source of love, strength, and support. She was someone they could turn to for guidance, encouragement, and honest advice. Her kindness and generosity extended far beyond her immediate family, touching the lives of friends, students, and others who crossed her path. The lessons she taught through her actions—compassion, perseverance, generosity, and the importance of caring for others—will continue to live on in the people she loved and inspired.
Though her passing leaves a profound emptiness in the hearts of those who love her, her life remains a lasting source of gratitude and pride. Her legacy lives on in the students she taught, the people she helped, the family she supported, and the countless memories of her smile, humor, wisdom, and love.
Can Thi Nguyen will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished. May the kindness she shared, the wisdom she imparted, and the love she gave continue to guide and comfort those whose lives she touched.
May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love she so freely gave throughout her life. She will never be forgotten.
