Anthony Tourlos joined our Lord on April 7, 2026, with a purified soul, newfound Godly wisdom, surrounded by his beloved family, in his warm home. A home he personally crafted with his own two hands. One that he pored his very essence into, in Pickering, Ontario, Canada.
Born on September 17, 1946, to a loving mother, Anthousa, and Father Aristidis Tourlos, in beautiful Milos, Greece.
Anthony jumped into life fearlessly, at the tender age of 14, with high aspirations and a grand vision; alone in a big world with only the courage of his soul; he tackled life victoriously. He served his country by joining the Greek Navy from 1968 to 1970. He started his journey winning and quickly became a Champion Boxer. With his movie star looks, his great charm, and incredible generosity, he won over everyone fortunate to know him.
He took big risks, and unquestionably had a mighty Angel by his side, time and time again, he was rescued by a Divine force.
Today, Anthony is remembered because of his many virtues, his great enthusiasm for life, his adventurous spirit, his entrepreneurial skills, for forming lifelong bonds, for his devotion to his friends, and his deep, deep adoration for his family. He believed that family unity is strength. He was a solid rock, a protector, the foundation behind a growing lineage. A true Patriarch. His loyalty was fierce, and his Word was his Bond. He was the definition of honourable.
He had strong values, solid morals, and unshakeable integrity. He was cheated; he however, never cheated anyone. Cherished for his endless attributes, valiant efforts, principles, and substance. Admired for his strength, his fighting spirit, his ability to do just about anything. From restoring cars and homes, to start-up businesses, to building things from scratch - always thinking outside the box, and finding problem-solving solutions.
He was tirelessly teaching those he loves the “proper way”! He was the Driver, literally. He navigated and steered the way for so many. His guidance and need to direct those he cared for toward excellence was the endless chatter in their ear. He had a competitive nature and won almost every game he played. His favourite game was unquestionably Poker; he never missed an opportunity to remind those around him that: ‘It takes moments to learn it, but a lifetime to conquer it!’.
He had a full life, and he shared many of his captivating stories. He loved his cars, bikes, and boats, his vacations, nature, the sun, and the ocean. His serenity was found underwater, where he spent countless hours exploring a vibrant and exciting marine world. He had an incredible head of hair, the kind of mane you write home about. He had a sensitive heart and a kind soul. He wore his heart on his sleeve and cried at every sentimental moment. In his company, you would either hear a funny joke, a favourite saying, a “criticism”, a solution, or advice. He was the real deal!!! His smile, his laugh, and his special ways will comfort us day by day.
It appears that God was having a really good day when he formed Anthony. Anthony was a servant of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He followed the Greek Orthodox traditions and was baptized as a baby into the faith. As the sun sets upon his life, and his body is laid to rest, we know he is in Heaven because God only takes the best.
His legacy lives on in our hearts and through his family. Anthony leaves behind his cherished wife, Effie, and their 54-year marriage. He was a dedicated husband. Having known each other from their youth, together they formed a family, together they formed each other, and together they wrote a story. Their story includes their firstborn daughter, Anthoula, his most loyal advocate, their second daughter, Nikki, daddy’s little girl, their first son Aristidis, shared car, bike and boat enthusiast, and their youngest son George, who inherited his hair.
He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Effie Maria, Anthony James, Anthony Nicholas, Theodore Anthony, and Elliott Donald Young. He was a wonderful Pappou, an instrumental father, and a loyal husband.
He also leaves behind his dear friends from all over the world, and his extended relatives, who are back home in Greece. Anthony was preceded in passing away by his Mother, Father, Stepfather and all of his Brothers, Sisters, as well as his Mother- in- law, Father-in-law, Aunt and Uncle-in-law, both Brothers-in-law and many, many friends. Though our hearts miss him and the void is great, we rejoice knowing he is having a celebratory reunion with family and friends on the other side.
“To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” 2 Corinthians 5:8.
