Andrew John Ledbury passed away on May 26, 2026 in Richmond Hill, Ontario at the age of 64. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Mary Ellen, and his children, Alexandra and Ben. He is predeceased by his parents, Maureen and Bob, his mother in-law, Joanne and his brother in-law, Linus. He will be dearly missed by his brother, Steven (Jackie), his father in-law, Victor, his brother in-law, Jason, and his sister in-law, Tracy.
Andrew was born in Camberley, England in 1961. He was a gifted child, a math whiz, and a noted standardized testing champion. He remained a proud Brit throughout his life, and was well-versed in British history and politics. He always bought imported English chocolate, rarely fell behind on watching Coronation Street, and never missed a day of reading the British press.
In 1992, Andrew moved to Canada, landing in Montreal, his first stop on a planned multi-year long North American tour. After living in Montreal for several months, he made his way to the second stop of his tour, Toronto, where he met and fell in love with Mary Ellen. Andrew and Mary Ellen enjoyed spending time with family and friends, travelling, dining out, seeing plays, attending the Toronto International Film Festival, and watching British period dramas.
Andrew loved being a father and was his children’s biggest supporter. On evenings and weekends throughout their childhoods, Andrew could be found cheering on Ally and Ben at different sporting events and practices. He was an incredibly involved Dad who, despite his fear of heights, learned to ski so that he could spend time with the family on March break ski trips. With Ally, Andrew enjoyed trying new restaurants, shopping, and discussing each other’s book, movie, and music recommendations. With Ben, Andrew enjoyed golf trips, travelling to soccer tournaments, and watching the Patriots play in Buffalo. Later on, he was their go-to for any and all academic and career advice, always encouraging them to believe in themselves and to try everything they were interested in. He instilled in them a sense of confidence, independence, and resilience, and taught them to never give up when faced with a challenge.
Andrew was incredibly smart, intuitive and well-spoken. He was highly respected throughout his professional career, which spanned 40 years in financial services and IT project management, spending most of his career in banks, from Solomon Brothers in London, to the majority of the Canadian “Big Five”. He played an important role in the Canadian capital markets industry and was sought after for his expertise and respected as a leader.
He had many hobbies and interests and became an expert in all of them; some of which included pens, tennis, photography, and film. You could engage him on any topic of conversation because he always had his finger on the pulse of current events and pop culture.
He fought hard for two years amid his stage IV cancer diagnosis and tried everything he could to stay with us for as long as possible. We will never forget his quick wit, unique story-telling ability, and loud, infectious laugh. His memory will live on and he will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to have known him.
“When a man’s stories are remembered, then he is immortal” - Daniel Wallace (Big Fish).
