It is with deep love and enduring gratitude that we remember the life of Alla Slavinsky - a wife, mother, grandmother, and courageous soul who touched the lives of all who knew her.
Alla was everything a woman could hope to be - intelligent, courageous, generous, kind, brave, funny, loyal, loving, and so much more.
As a person, Alla was an inspiration - fearlessly leaving her life, home, and everything she knew behind so that together with her husband Leon, they could bring their daughters, Marina and Helen, across the world to Canada for the prospects of a better life.
As a wife, Alla was a grounding presence, Leon’s soul mate. They not only complimented each other’s personalities, but admired, understood, and stood by one another in a way that suggested they shared an innate understanding that the two of them were always meant to be. They were true life companions.
As a mother, Alla was a fierce protector and a gentle guide — a woman who sacrificed everything to give her daughters a better life. She led with love, courage, and unshakable determination, showing them what it meant to be strong, proud, and unafraid to start anew.
As a grandmother, Alla was a blessing. The love she had for her grandchildren, Nicole, Jack, and Sacha, truly had no limits - it shone through her twinkling blue eyes every time she looked at one of them. Her remarkable spirit, undeniable presence, warm laugh, and incredibly beautiful smile will be dearly missed.
Alla's journey began in the Soviet Union, wherein she learned to adapt and overcome when her family home was occupied by Nazi Germans. Her intelligence and independence led her to become one of the few professional engineers of her era. She raised her two beloved daughters with strength, wisdom, courage and resilience — traits that defined her throughout her long and extraordinary life.
In Canada, Alla created a home filled with warmth, pride, and a deep sense of perseverance. She embraced her new country while keeping her roots close, teaching her children and grandchildren the values of family, and dignity. She lived each day with grace, humour, and a radiant inner strength that never dimmed.
Her life was long and happy — not because it was free of hardship, but because she faced every challenge with a proud heart and an open spirit. Alla never stopped believing in the power of love, hard work, and the importance of holding your head high. She was the kind of woman whose presence made you feel safe, whose stories reminded you where you came from, and whose laughter could light up a room.
To her family, she was a guiding star — a steady presence in an ever-changing world. And to everyone lucky enough to know her, she was an inspiration.
As we say goodbye to Bubbi, we hold her legacy close: the sacrifices she made, the love she gave, and the life she built — one full of meaning, purpose, and pride.
May her memory be a blessing, and may we all carry forward the light she so generously shared.
It brings us great peace to know that our beloved Dyeda is awaiting her with his loving arms and a smile to be shared.
We will be having a private family service and are thankful for your love and good wishes. For those wanting to recognize this occasion, we ask that you make a donation to B’nai Brith Canada (https://www.bnaibrith.ca). The organization that sponsored the Slavinsky family as they came to Canada.
