Alice Klein (b. October 30, 1937) passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, September 21, 2026) after being diagnosed with ALS 1-month ago but the effects of the disease started over 1+ years ago.

Alice’s parents met fell in love in Russia and then reconnected when they immigrated to Canada in the 1910s. In 1944, Alice’s sister Susan was born. Alice and Susan have been best friends, and they communicated every day right up to the end.

Alice met Colman Klein when they were both camp counsellors at 15-years old, the married in 1958 and in 1963 went off to Europe to explore and work. Their son, Robert Klein was born in Montreal in 1964, followed by his sister, Lisa in 1966.

For all of Alice’s career she taught and worked with children and adults with special needs, which she loved with a deep passion.

Alice was an amazing grandmother to her grandchildren Jasmine, Annabelle and Shea who she was always there for them to play, shop, talk, listen, love.

Over the last 8-years of Lisa’s life (deceased February 4, 2024), Alice and Colman were always there for her and her devoted husband Said (‘Chidi’) Salim and her grandson, Shea.

Alice was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who will always be remembered and loved for incredible empathy for others, which she passed on to everyone she touched, her sense of humour, love of travelling, playing games and as a partner, mother, friend and role model with a stealy resolve.

Alice and Colman were very happily married for almost 68-years.

Their family asked that any donations be made to the Canadian ALS society.
