With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Alexander "Alex" Kozicki, who peacefully left us on Sunday, August 18th, 2024, at the age of 91.
Born on December 8, 1932, in Kenora, Ontario, Alex was a vibrant and cherished presence in the lives of all who knew him. Alex was predeceased by his beloved parents, Mary Kulik and Sam Kozicki, as well as his dear brother, William Kozicki. In 1962, Alex married the love of his life, Ilze Bumbulis, with whom he shared nearly four decades of happiness until her untimely passing in 2001.
He is survived by his two devoted children: Mark, who is joined in life by his partner Mike, and Karin, lovingly supported by her husband David and their daughter Leah Ilze. Alex cherished his nieces and nephews, but his greatest joy came from his granddaughter, Leah, whose presence brought immense pride and delight to his life.
Alex had a deep connection to his hometown of Kenora, where he eagerly returned many summers, to care for his mother and enjoy time with a wide circle of childhood friends at their lake ‘shacks'. Whether playing euchre, fishing, or sharing a drink with his buddies, these moments were some of his happiest. Alex proudly graduated with honours obtaining various technologist and technology degrees from Ryerson. Alex spent most of his career as a dedicated and accomplished employee of Ontario Hydro for over 30 years, where he made a lifelong friend in Dalton. Alex took great pride in his skills as a handyman and DIY expert, lovingly renovating his home, fixing his cars, and caring for his gardens. Known for his exceptional pool-playing skills, he often outplayed experts at Toronto pool halls. His commitment and generosity to his community was evident in his roles over the years as Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, assistant soccer coach, and Neighborhood Watch leader for Rexdale. In his later years, Alex found great joy in the company of his cat, Shadow, indulging him with love and attention. Some of his favorite moments were spent in his backyard with a Coors Light and Shadow by his side.
The family warmly invites you to join them in celebrating Alex’s remarkable life on Saturday, September 14th, at York Cemetery and Funeral Centre, 160 Beecroft Road, Toronto, Ontario. The inurnment will begin at 1 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life from 2 PM to 5 PM, where friends and family can share memories and honour his legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Oakville & District Humane Society in Alex's memory, reflecting his love for animals and his generous spirit.
Alex will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
