It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Agnes Anne Clarke (née Beale), a devoted wife, loving mother, and true force of nature. Agnes passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026, in Toronto, at the age of 76, surrounded by her beloved family, just as she wished.
Agnes was born on March 7, 1950, in Kilmarnock, Scotland, the daughter of Mary Beale (née Docherty) and Ernest Beale (both predeceased). At the age of seven, she embarked on her first great adventure, crossing the Atlantic Ocean to begin a new life in Canada. She often shared stories of her early years, filled with memories of time spent with her siblings Evelyn, Ernie, and Jimmy (all predeceased).
Agnes took great pride in her work as a nurse, caring for others with compassion, warmth, and quiet strength. It was at a fateful nurses’ ball that she met Grant Clarke. Together, they found in each other a shared sense of humour, dedication, and joy for life. They built a beautiful life together over 48 years of partnership and raised two children, Jennifer Clarke (Jesus) and Sean Clarke (Kira).
She was a treasured and spirited grandmother to her granddaughters, Chloe Ella and Ines Jocelyn, who reflected her spark, joy, and signature sense of sass. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A woman of many talents, Agnes was remarkably adaptable and capable in all she pursued—from her years as a devoted stay-at-home mother, to her administrative role in various companies , and later, as the owner of The Flower Nook.
Though always open to adventure, Agnes was happiest at home—whether in a space she had thoughtfully and beautifully curated, in her meticulously tended garden, or at the cottage, surrounded by family and friends. Her greatest joy was creating a home filled with warmth, connection, and lasting memories. She had a natural gift for bringing people together and building a strong, vibrant community around her.
Agnes will always be remembered for her unwavering strength, her joie de vivre, her quick wit, and her deep and abiding love for her family. She will be profoundly missed and forever cherished with love and gratitude.
The family will receive friends at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre on Tuesday, March 31st from 1:00-2:00 with a memorial service to follow at 2:00pm. For those who wish, donations can be made to The Heart and Stoke Foundation in her honour.
