We are deeply saddened to announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Afrodite Mrakas on June 11, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Afrodite was preceded in death by her cherished husband, Vasillios Mrakas, who passed away on January 12, 2025. Together, they shared nearly 58 years of a life filled with love, devotion, family, faith, and tradition. Their enduring bond was an inspiration to all who knew them, and we find solace in knowing they are reunited once more.
Afrodite leaves behind her loving children, Chris (Michael), Steve (Tammy), and Tom (Alison). She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Kosta (Justine) and Afrodite (Sean), and a cherished great-grandmother to Lily and Xavier, who brought immense joy into her life.
She was the beloved daughter of the late Karlos and Christine Pedias, and the cherished sister of Niki (Stavros). Afrodite was also a loving aunt to Mahi, Catherine, and Sophie, and she leaves behind many cousins, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her kindness, generosity, and friendship.
Born on May 21, 1946, in Vevi, Florina, Greece, Afrodite immigrated to Canada as a young woman seeking new opportunities and a brighter future. Through hard work, determination, and sacrifice, she built a beautiful life centred on family, love, and tradition, always cherishing her Greek roots and heritage.
She savoured life’s simple pleasures and adventures, especially her trips to Cuba and Las Vegas, where she created cherished memories filled with joy, laughter, and relaxation.
Afrodite was a remarkable woman whose warmth, compassion, and infectious smile touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. She had a unique gift for making people feel welcome and valued, effortlessly turning strangers into friends. Wherever she went, she left a lasting impression and formed meaningful connections.
Her greatest joy was caring for her family. She expressed her love through food, bringing everyone together around her table. Whether it was her famous roasts with perfectly seasoned lemon potatoes, or the countless desserts she lovingly prepared. Every meal was a celebration of family, laughter, and togetherness. Her recipes nourished not only our bodies but also our hearts.
She was the glue that held her family together—a source of wisdom, comfort, strength, and unwavering support. Her generosity knew no bounds, and her door was always open to those in need of a meal, a conversation, or a warm embrace.
Though our hearts ache in her absence, we are forever grateful for the memories she gave us, the lessons she taught us, and the unconditional love she freely shared. Her legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those whose lives she touched.
Forever loved, forever remembered, and forever missed.
Reunited with her beloved Vasillios, she now rests in peace, and we find comfort knowing they are together once again.
May her memory be eternal.
Αιωνία της η μνήμη.
