In memory of

Zlatko Ante Svoboda

May 17, 1929 -  March 5, 2025

Beloved husband of Maria. Loving father of Tomislav and Eva (Seymour). Cherished dida of Mika and Aiden. Predeceased by his sister, Blanka. He will be missed by his extended family and friends across Canada, in Croatia, the United States, England, Germany, and Australia. Zlatko was born in Pakrac, Croatia.

He was passionate about Croatia, its history, the land and people. He enjoyed camping, kayaking, long distance swimming in the Adriatic, and mountaineering, where he met Maria, his wife. She was the love of his life and they enjoyed 70 years together. They frequently hosted dinner parties with friends, where they sang songs accompanied by Zlatko’s accordion and piano playing. He was a gifted artist, making most of the furniture and paintings in their home, as well as paintings for the church community and friends. He was employed as a medical histotechnologist at York Finch General Hospital and shared fond and humorous stories of his work there. He was a loyal friend, devoted to his family, spiritual practice, and church community.

Visitation will be at York Cemetery & Funeral Centre, 160 Beecroft, Toronto, (North of Yonge and Sheppard) on Thursday, March 13 from 9 am-10 am with Funeral Service at 10 am (Eastern Standard Time). The burial will be from 11 am-11:30 am, with reception to follow till 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Our Lady Queen of Croatia Church would be appreciated.

An online attendance link for the visitation and funeral service will appear at the top of this memorial page at 9:15 a.m (EST) on Thursday March 13th, 2025. For loved ones who wish to view the service after, a video recording will be uploaded on the "Media" tab above a few days after the service.

Our hearts are with you at this sad time. We hope you are comforted by the many happy memories you have of your father's very long life. He certainly imparted many of his talents and interests (athletic, artistic, medical, loyalty to Croatia) to you, Eva, and in that way, he will live on. I only met him once, but I know what a tight-knit and loving family he cultivated with your mother. May his memory always be a blessing.
