Zaiga Kalnins (nee Zarins) died peacefully at the Rockcliffe Care Community. She leaves behind her son Arnis (Sandra), her daughter Zinta, and will be deeply missed by her grandchildren Eriks, Aleksia, Tayah and in particular Kiana who had lived with Zaiga for a few years. Zaiga was born in Riga, Latvia. Her family left the country to flee communism in 1944. They lived in various Displaced Persons camps in Germany until they immigrated to Canada a few years later. Zaiga and her family lived in Pembroke, Ontario where her father worked at Ontario Hydro. Zaiga attended Carleton University in Ottawa and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1964. She moved to St. Catharines in 1970 and later Toronto where she worked as a Medical technologist at Sunnybrook Medical Centre as well as other medical laboratories. More recently, she enjoyed spending lots of time with her grandchildren. Vieglas smiltis.
