Yung Il Chun

April 12, 1942 - October 16, 2020

It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Yung Il Chun on Friday, October 16, 2020, at the age of 78. Loving husband of Jungok, to whom he has been married for 44 years. Cherished father of Eugene and SueRene (Dave). Proud grandfather of Joshua, Keira, and Leia. Beloved son of the late Sang Tan and Hong Soo Chun. Brother of Byung Rok Chun (Dorit), Byung Gul Chun (Soon-ok), Ai Hee Cha, Kyung Sook Chun (K.W. Yoon) and Hyun Sook Chun (Lee) and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Yung will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, and the community of Merlin, Ontario. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private Memorial will take place at York Funeral Centre and Cemetery.

We were so very sorry to hear of Yung’s passing. He was kind and generous and always concerned with how our day was going.

So sorry to hear of Jung's sudden passing. Have loved Jung and Joanne since we moved to Merlin in 2005. The Café was the hub of our little community, where farmers met daily, early every morning to solve the world's problems. Jung was a kind and generous soul. Couldn't give him a Christmas present without getting a free breakfast next time you visited! I'll miss his gentle smile and his flair for cooking with one hand in the air while he flipped the frying fish with his chopsticks. God bless Jung, Joanne and their precious family and grandchildren.

Yung will be missed! He was always such a kind man at the Café where he made you feel welcome and enjoyed cooking for everyone in town! The Erie Café won’t be the same without him! Rest In Peace Yung! Our hearts go out to the entire family!
