In memory of

Yun Shen Bau

July 1932 - January 2022

The Bau family is saddened to announce the loss of Yun Shen who passed away at the age of 89.

Yun Shen was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He had a long distinguished career as a professor in Microbiology at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. His inquisitive mind led him to excel in anything he pursued.

Outside of academics, he enjoyed photography, Chinese opera, calligraphy and travelling. This is evident by the myriads of photographs, books and written notes he left behind. But above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He wanted to be with his loved ones at every opportunity. He understood from the beginning how precious time and companionship were in life.

The last few years were especially difficult as he battled dementia. This progressively prevented him from enjoying the life that he loved. Despite this, he never stopped loving his family. More importantly, to the end, he never stopped loving God. May he be with God in paradise.

Yun Shen will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, an invitation-only visitation and funeral will be held.

Dear Bau family,

I am very sorry for your loss and send my deepest condolences to you all.

While I did not know him personally, I know that he has raised two wonderful children, no doubt a testament of his being a great father. I enjoyed reading about his life, as a distinguished professor, of his passion for the arts, and most importantly, of his love for his family.

It sounds like he lived such a full life, contributing so much to students, the academic community, family, and friends. You must be so proud of him and miss him so much.

My thoughts, prayers, and heart ❤️ are with you all during this difficult time.

Take care of yourselves.

All the very best,
Jeanette Teh

Auntie, Michelle, Bao Family:

We feel and share a profound depth of loss in the passing of Uncle Bau/ your Dad. We remember him as a most distinguished, honorable, loving, intelligent, enthusiastic and supportive human being, not to mention a great mind with many talents.

Uncle always had such warmth in his eyes and his smile radiated at many of our family gatherings. We thank him for travelling far to share our special moments in life. We have missed seeing him more recently. We know he was at his core a family man who loved each of you and his Grandchildren deeply.

Michelle, we see the best of him in you, and therefore are most thankful to Uncle for the gifts of his children and grandchildren, for they are his legacy and blessings to the rest of us.

Auntie, words fail to express the loss of a life shared together. We are so thankful for your strength and continued presence in the lives of your family and friends who love and value you. We miss you and Uncle and are thinking of both of you often, and send you our deepest condolences, and wishes for a happy reconciliation one beautiful day in the future. ♥️

Words fail to express my sorrow for the loss of dear Dr. Bau. To Mrs. Jenny Bau and the family, I am sending my sincerest condolences and loving thoughts. Wishing you strength, comfort and peace!
Wherever a respectable soul has been there is a trail of resonant memories. I was a student of Dr. Bau at New Asia College in Hong Kong. Our paths crossed again in Toronto that had garnered many laughter and joy … his son’s wedding banquet, gatherings at Dr. Bau and Biology classmates’ houses partying, singing karaoke and celebrating occasions; aw well numerous alumni activities/gatherings…. Memories always stay alive of these warmest moments.
With love and prayers for a special individual, Dr. Bau!

All the warm memories of the time when we were in the classes with Professor Bau in New Asia College and when we travelled together during the reunion activities in the past few years came back to mind.
