In Loving Memory of Yun Chang Chou

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our dearly loved Yun Chang Chou. At the remarkable age of 103, Yun lived a simple and humble life, always prioritizing her family above all else. Her love and warmth touched not only her family, but also the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to know her. Yun was the very essence of what family bonds should be, a guiding light for us all.

Yun was educated during a time when it was not easy for women to seek education, even more rare in a small town where she grew up. Yun truly espoused the values of learning, demonstrated by how well she adapted to the changes in life. In her 90s, she learned how to use an iPad to better communicate with family and friends!

Yun leaves behind 6 children, 19 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren, all of whom deeply cherished her kindness, humility, and nurturing spirit. Her beloved husband, Chuck Hong Huang, who passed away in 2006, and one of her children, have gone before her. Throughout her life, Yun made sure that each of her children felt loved and at home, setting an inspiring example of patience and selflessness.

As we grieve her loss, we also celebrate the rich and full life she led. We find solace in knowing that Yun is now at peace and reunited with her husband. Yun's memory will forever live on in the hearts of her loved ones, reminding us of the incredible impact she had on those around her.

As we remember Yun Chang Chou, let us honor her legacy of love, humility, and devotion to family by sharing our heartfelt stories and cherished moments. Through these memories, we can ensure her spirit continues to inspire us all in nurturing the strong family bonds she so beautifully exemplified. Rest in peace, dear Yun Chang Chou, you will be deeply missed and forever treasured in our hearts.

Grandma .... I love you...You had such a peaceful soul. I will always remember your smile and laughter (a lot of times because of the language barrier we didn't always understand each other. When we realized that we both had no idea what each of us were saying we both would just chuckle to imply "everything is ok"). I hope you will visit me in dream with Mom, Dad and Grandpa...

Grandma loved snacking and even enjoyed midnight snacks as one of her simple joys in life, all the way to the end. There was always an array of snacks by her chair at home.

Grandma didn't speak English, but that didn't stop her from communicating with all those people in the little town of Listowel. She would speak Chinese to the cashiers, waitresses, bank tellers like there was no language barrier. Magically, and eventually, some of them understood her well enough. This was always amusing to me.

Where there is a will, there is a way.

Grandma was a food adventurer, always willing to try new food. "Just a tiny bit", she would always say. Including stinky cheese, durian cake, etc..

Great grandma was always offering me her snacks, one by one, whenever possible. Especially those she knew I like. She would always save some of my favourite chocolate for me.

Whenever I set up a table to make Kung Fu Tea, grandma would say, "only you have the patience to make tea this way". I would offer her a small cup, and she would say, "It will keep me up at night", but would then gladly finish it (and more), and said "so refreshing", "I am not sleepy anymore", "I will be alert all day".
