In memory of

Yuki Kondo

March 7, 1923 -  December 4, 2024

True to her name, our mother Yuki (which means snow) peacefully passed on the first significant GTA snowfall of 2024. She was an impressive 101 years young, and an independent lady who, at 99, was still driving herself to church, her favourite grocery stores, and to the mall for her daily walk. Anyone who knew her truly thought she would outlive us all.

Yuki was predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Harry (Shota), her parents Chuzo & Iku Tsushima and her siblings, Yasuo, Yoshiko, Keiko & Sachiko. And sadly, just recently, her brother George decided to pack up his cigars to join the rest of the family.

Yuki's 5 great-grandchildren (Kimari, Kai, Aiden, Andrew & Jayden) filled her with pride. Her 4 grandchildren (Kimiko, Akemi, Masayo & Naomi) were the lucky ones who benefited from unconditional bachan (grandma) love with a pinch of quirkiness mixed in. Nieces & nephews still talk about her perpetually filled candy bowl.

They also remember their aunt as being "giving, caring, gentle & strong". Her son Alan (Ruthie) and daughter Laurie (Gary) have a lot to live up to.

As the matriarch of the Tsushima family, Yuki was the perfect role model and will be dearly missed. A private service will be held in her honour.

In lieu of flowers or koden, a memorial donation to the Toronto Buddhist Church would be a wonderful tribute.

Bachan was a graceful and giving grandmother. I will miss her dearly.

We all have so many wonderful memories of Auntie Yuki. She was so much to so many people. She was a Mom, a Mother-in-law, a Gogo, a Bachan, a Sister, a Sister-in-law, an Auntie, a beautiful and devoted wife to our late Uncle Harry and always a friend. Yuki was our family Matriarch who cherished family above all else and lovingly hosted many of our family gatherings. She had a wonderful influence on us all. She made us all feel important in her life and she was so important in ours. She was proper, polite, giving, caring, gentle, strong and amazingly disciplined. My mom (Yuki’s youngest sister; Sachiko) had said to me that “everything Yuki says and does, is Perfect”. Yuki was our true role model. We never wanted to disappoint her, so in her own genuine and gentle way, Yuki kept us all in line. She was truly an inspiration to us all and she will be so dearly missed.
