In Memory of Yuk Yin (Cheung) Yip 葉張玉燕

March 6, 1935 - March 8, 2022

Yuk Yin Yip passed away peacefully at Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital on Tuesday March 8, 2022, at the age of 87, with family by her side.

She is reunited with her dearly departed husband 廣信 Kwong Shun and loving son 劍宏 Frank.

Yuk Yin is survived by her loving children 麗玲 Linda (Frank), 劍權 Brian (Pat), 妙玲 Lily and daughter-in-law Ida.

Yuk Yin was a doting Grandmother, affectionately known as “Poh Poh” to her 9 grandchildren Jeffrey (Natalie), Colleen, Jocelyn, Catherine, David, Alan, Michael, Philip and Robert. All of the grandchildren will deeply cherish their memories and time spent with her from infancy through adulthood. Her great-grandchildren Colin, Charlotte and Cassidy also loved their “Bak Bak” and will miss drawing pictures for her.

She will be dearly missed by her younger siblings Kwun Chuen (Ling), Yuk Ngan, Ka Hoo (Isebella), Chun Lam (Teresa) and by her many nieces and nephews.

Throughout her entire life, family remained the top priority to Yuk Yin and she was fiercely devoted to all. She took great pride in supporting and seeing her children complete higher education, with grandchildren following suit. She relished in hearing of their accomplishments, successes and endeavour's, with no update being too small to light up her eyes. She always wanted everyone to have what they loved, especially food, and never failed to ensure ample amounts were available at every opportunity.

Yuk Yin was a welcoming spirit, socializing with friends and neighbours, her favourite shop merchants in Chinatown and continued to maintain ties with schoolmates from China. She proudly maintained a tidy home and garden, and was the longest standing resident on her street. Her neighbours referred to her respectfully as “Mrs. Yip” (or casually as Judy) when they saw her out sweeping the front walk, and she enjoyed sharing her favourite treats with them during their annual street parties.

She will be remembered by family and friends for her dedication to wishing all those around her only the best in health, wealth and happiness.

The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses that were part of Yuk Yin’s care team.

Services will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery and Funeral Centre, located at 375 Mt Pleasant Rd, Toronto ON, M4T 2V8.

Visitation hours on Friday March 18 from 5PM - 8PM and Saturday March 19 from 10AM - 11AM. Funeral service will follow visitation on Saturday at 11AM.

Mount Pleasant Cemetery Covid-19 protocols include mandatory face coverings worn at all times while inside any of the facilities, physical distancing is not required at this time and venue capacity is open to 100%. The family also request, for the safety of all in attendance, a double vaccination requirement for in-person attendance at the visitation hours and funeral services. The family appreciates all who wish to pay their respects, but kindly ask that if you are feeling unwell or are experiencing symptoms, to please refrain from attending.

She was such a generous and welcome spirit. I’m glad I got to bring her to the set of “The Corruptor” when we were filming in Toronto and introduce her to Chow Yun Fat. I also got to meet so many cousins and glad I am connected to them. RIP, Yuk Yin. Our family is saddened, especially our mother May.

Great aunt could always be counted on for a good laugh and support when needed. Will always remember the kindness and thoughtfulness she portrayed. Will miss her genuine laughter and very short stature.

Lily, Philip and Robert,

I am so sorry for your loss. Your mom/ grandmother, sounds like an amazing, strong and independent woman, whose legacy of love and generosity is reflected in her family and friends. May she rest in peace.

Yuk Yin Yip will be missed greatly. I remember as a child going to her home and hanging out with our cousins while my parents and grandparents chatted and cooked. She was always kind and generous and always welcomed us into her home. I always loved talking to her, going for dim sum and enjoyed her many visits to my grandparents house. Andrew and I will miss her dearly.
